Ali & Kieran have been together forever. They're high school sweethearts from Canada, currently living in San Francisco, and decided that an intimate courthouse wedding here along with a party back home was the way to go. Their style was classic elegance, and while I don't normally deliver too many black & whites, they requested extras and I'm so glad they did! Below are a few of my favorite b&w edits followed by color coverage of their beautiful hour at City Hall.
And now for my usual color coverage!
I already knew that Anna and Fan were a stylish couple, but they really brought it to the next level on their wedding day. Anna's purple Reformation dress and Fan's impeccably-fitting suit and blue hair were a perfect combination. The day was well-curated but relaxed, and their parents were the perfect wedding guests. Anna's parents traveled from Moscow to be there! We went from City Hall to their fantastic SF apartment for more portraits, as well as champagne and macarons, as well as the perfect rooftop view for photos.
Anna is a jeweler and made her gorgeous horsehair earrings. Check out her work!

Karl and Jessica traveled from across the world to elope alone (well, plus me!) at San Francisco City Hall. Karl is from the UK, Jessica is from New Zealand, and the two live together in Singapore. Talk about an international wedding! After getting married the two jet-set together to their home countries for a fun and in-person surprise announcement of their marriage.
Even better: Jessica made her dress! She talked about it like she doesn't often sew, and that this project took her months. Personally, I think she should go into business. :)

The end of a year is always a time for reflection (especially when you're on vacation and it's too cold to go outside!). When reviewing photos I always pause on how a good portrait is a full collaboration between photographer and subject. Thank you to everyone who both trusted me and brought so many great ideas in front of my camera!
2017: A year of weddings, engagements, and elopements with the coolest couples a photographer could ask for.
Every year is different, and I'm excited for both the pre-planned bookings and the mystery of what's to come. I plan on diving further into non-wedding portraiture and seeing how that mindset influences my wedding work. I'm ready to embrace and challenge the power of light, movement, emotion, and editing -- but I also aim to tell simple, beautiful love stories without getting caught up in trendy optics.
I'll see you there.
